Nick Cho was born in Seoul, Korea in 1973. He immigrated to the US in 1975 with his father and mother, eventually settling in the Washington DC suburbs in Northern Virginia where he grew up.
After a number of different jobs including car sales, music teacher, and assistant to a radio producer for a nationally syndicated comedy radio show, he opened a small coffee shop in Washington DC in 2002 called "murky coffee." He moved to San Francisco in 2010, co-founding a new coffee company called "Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters."
Nick established himself as a leading expert in the specialty coffee industry, transforming different areas including barista championships and cafe design. He created and launched the competition known as the "World Brewers Cup," which has been crowning the best coffee brewing professionals in the world since 2011. He also created and hosted the first podcast for coffee professionals in 2005 called, "The Portafilter Podcast." Nick has traveled the world as a leading industry expert to speak and teach at various venues and events throughout the coffee world.
He's led the industry serving as a founding member of the Barista Guild of America Executive Council, a member of the Specialty Coffee Association of America board of directors, the chairman of the US Barista Championship, member of the SCAA Technical Standards committee, and served on the World Barista Championship board of directors. He was also the US Southeast Regional Barista Champion of 2006-2007.
Nick started on TikTok in late 2019, and started posting videos as what would be known as "Your Korean Dad" in April of 2020. His audience has been growing rapidly ever since to over 4 million total followers on social media.
Nick has been featured in numerous media outlets, including Bon Appetit, NBC's Today Show, Newsweek, CNN, and The Los Angeles Times. He was the host for the reveal video of the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, and appeared as himself in a series of commercials for Alaska Airlines with fashion icon, Tan France.
Nick has two real-life young adult daughters named Madeline and Penelope and currently resides with his partner Kimmie and dog Juno outside of San Diego, California.
